10 tips to keep your child healthy during winter season
With the sweaty summers long gone and moist monsoons bidding goodbye, a lot of people are ready to welcome winters with smiling face. The ideal image of a mother spending time with her child snuggling inside a blanket or cradling the baby in one hand covered with warmth and reading a book to him is quite common. But, this dreamy image can get shattered as your little one falls sick. You need special care for your child duringthe winter season, especially if it is a new-born baby care.
Here are some tips to keep your child healthy throughout the winter season –
- Make use of a humidifier
In some areas, the temperature rises extremely high, making it mandatory to use heating system or heaters in your kids room. Under such circumstances, the heating will wipe out the room with water vapour and coldness and make it dry for your child. With the help of a humidifier or heater, you can maintain the warmth and moisture level of the room optimally.
- Make use of a moisturizer
Your baby’s skin is very sensitive and harsh winter atmosphere will not treat it gently. In order to keep your child’s skin soft and moisturized, you should use creams for kids or a food skin lotion. Go for those creams which are rich in milk and butter. It will maintain the texture and glow of your kid’s skin.
- Wash hands well
Your child may be exposed to virus and bacteria during shool hours. So, it is important to make your kid wash their hands with soap and warm water. It is important to teach them to scrub their hands for at least 10-15 minutes during hand wash. And after every hand wash, make sure they use a skin moisturizer.
- Massage your child in the right way
Massaging your child is highly recommended in winters. Massaging stimulates the blood circulation in the body and enhances the sense of well-being. It boosts the immunity of your kid and maintains a warm temperature for your kid. Make sure you use natural oils to massage your child and select an appropriate time for it.
- Do not make use of heavy blankets
Laying a heavy blanket on your child for apt warmth is the most obvious way to comfort your kid during winters. But, no it is not the safest. If your child is unable to shift the blanket, then chances are he/ she might suffocate. Thus, you should use light blanket and ensure that the room temperature is optimal.
- Dress comfortably and go for layered clothing
Keeping your child wrapped in gloves, socks, sweaters and cap could restrict his actions and make him feel irritated. However, you should choose dresses which do not just render apt warmth but also keep him/ her comfortable. Go for fully covered clothes. You can also go for layered dressing and dress two-three sweaters at one time. Gloves and socks are sufficient to make your baby sleep in peace.
- Give food which enhances the immune system of your child
Giving food rich in Vitamin C or omega fatty acid will help you enrich the immune system of your child. It will make them healthy to combat winters from the inside. Include soup in the diet. You can use chicken broth or vegetable broth and make fine soup for your child. Use some garlic as they are natural remedies to prevent winters.
- Do not skip the vaccination schedule
Yes, winters may cause sickening of your child and loss of immunity level. But, you shouldn’t skip the vaccination. It is important to get all the vaccinations needed for your child at the right time. Get a flu shot for kids above 6 months of age. However, make sure you consult a paediatrician before.
- Keep then hydrated and drink sufficient water
Hydration helps your body to fight bacteria and virus. Water is especially important in winters, especially when your child has fever. Plenty of water makes mucous thin and helps coughing up or blowing from the nose simpler. It also increases metabolism and keeps the body warm from the inside.
- Limit exposure to cold and don’t forget winter accessories
Babies and kids do not have similar tolerance for cold as adults. Thus, you should limit their outside hours. And if they are out, then remember to put on warm boots, hat, gloves and scarfs. It does make them feel comfortable and stay protected from cold wind and weather
