International Day of Charity – September 5, 2019
The International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.
Every year the International Day of Charity is commemorating annually on 5th September. First observed in 2013, the International Day of Charity calls the world to act with solidarity and compassion in the face of human suffering. It promotes volunteer and philanthropic activities to mobilize people and bring resiliency and inclusiveness to society.
The International Day of Charity commemorates the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace."
"When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed." — Mother Teresa, Roman Catholic Nun
Acts of Charity to Honor the International Day of Charity
1. Do research on different kinds of charities
Just as there are billions of humans on the Earth, there are billions of different problems that affect us, and some of them might not get very much attention in mainstream media. Take this opportunity to do some research, and see how many not-mainstream charities you can find.
2. Look for a place to volunteer
Giving to charity is always a worthwhile thing to do, but you can also donate your time in addition to (or instead of) your money. Find somewhere close to home where you can put in some work and do some good in your community.
3. Show on AmazonSmile
With almost all the same products as Amazon.com, shopping on AmazonSmile makes charitable giving easy. At no extra cost to you, AmazonSmile will donate a percentage of every single purchase you make to the GoAbroad Foundation.
4. Start a Fundraiser
It only takes one person with a mission to start a movement and change lives. With the holidays just around the corner, get your family, church, school, or community involved in a fundraiser to support one of our project needs.
Some of the quotes of Mother Teresa
- If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.
- Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.
- Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.
